Our very first topic in the module "Time Management", a very crucial topic when it comes to a students life and even after words in the career ahead, meting deadlines and completing Assignments especially and many other.
In class we discussed some time management techniques such as prioritizing the work load according to the important factor of the task, maintain to do lists, mental mind-mapping.
As a class activity we all were told to write our task lists or the to-do-lists on a paper and make it according to the Covey's Time Management Matrix . Then we were asked to group into 4 groups and discuss and draw a mind-map for one of the matrices we drew and in the mind map to note down the disruptions for the task and the actions that we can avoid disruptions.
The mind-map was marked by our lecturer and gave good comments too.
Now that was all about what I experienced in the class. After further research on Time Management I found out the Pareto principal or the 80/20 rule which says that 80% of unfocussed effort generate only 20% of results, and renaming 80% of result can be achieved by giving 20% of attention and effort. After reflecting on my time management skills I came to realise the 80/20 rule really givens me in lots of situations like on the meet of deadlines such as assignments.
Further discussing on the Covey's Time Management Matrix or the most commonly known Urgent/Important Matrix is a grate tool to identify the task which should be done immediatly and can be done slowly so that outcome result will be grate.
In the first quadrant or the Urgent/Important section, there can be too types of tasks that can fall as it says by Mindtools.com (2013), ones that we could not foresee, and others that we've left to the last minute. Well we can avoid last-minute work by proper planing and avoiding procrastination. Procrastination is an enemy for effective time management.
Urgent/Not-Important activities are things that can drag us from achieving longtime goals. These kind of activities can be called as interruptions, so always when we come across such an activity we should try to reschedule or to simply avoid it.
Not-Urgent/Impotent, these are the activities which really help us to achieve our goals, each activity is important to us but not urgent rite at the moment we should try to focus more on these soon after Urgent/Important since in fail to complete activities in Not-Urgent/Impotent will lead to a Urgent/Important situation.
Lastly the Not-Urgent/Not-Important activities are all distractions for all the other three kind of activities so we always should try to avoid and learn to say "No" for these kind of activities.
